Karkala: ‘Palloti Vikas’ minor seminary of society of Catholic Apostolate inaugurated

Karkala, Mar 2: ‘Palloti Vikas’, minor seminary of society of the Catholic Apostolate was blessed and inaugurated on February 28 at Miyar.

Fr Pedro Camilo Simoes SAC, provincial rector of ABVM province, Bengaluru, inaugurated the seminary building by cutting the ribbon. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop, diocese of Udupi, blessed the new chapel, seminary and presided over the Holy Eucharistic celebrations at the chapel, while Fr Mark D’Souza, rector of Palloti Vikas Seminary, Fr Joswey Fernandes, dean of Karkala deanery, Fr Roshan Menezes, episcopal vicar, diocese of Udupi, Fr George D’Souza, rector of St Lawrence Minor Basilica and priests from the deanery and diocesan were the concelebrants. Fr Carmilo Simoes, led the prayer service.



After the Eucharistic celebrations, Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Fr Camilo Simeos, Fr Joswey Fernandes, Fr Jerome Monterio, Fr Claudy Vas, and Fr Mark D’Souza were present in the formal function.

Children’s from the Miyar Church performed the welcome dance.

Donors, sponsors, engineer, provincial, contractor and architect were felicitated by the dignitaries.

On the occasion of the inauguration, memorial plants were planted by the dignitaries.

Fr Mark D’Souza welcomed the gathering, Fr Jason rendered the vote of thanks and Rayan compered the programme. Fellowship meals were served to those present for the inaugural function.

Society of the Catholic Apostolate – SAC is the first religious seminary in the diocese of Udupi, and the Karkala deanery, first pallottine minor seminary in the state. Currently, three priests along with 11 students reside at the seminary. The seminary was built on the occasion of 200th year anniversary of St Vincent Pallotti's ordination.

Currently, Fr Jason D’Souza is serving in Karkala deanary as spiritual director for Sthree Sanghatan, and Fr Mark Dsouza as spiritual director for Health Commission, Karkala deanary, who is also serving as the president, Conference of Religious in India, Udupi unit. Pallottine fathers also help out in ministry at St Lawrence Basilica at Attur.
