Udupi, Feb 28: Every year in the month of March, School of Communication (SOC) in collaboration with Concerned for Working Children (CWC) organises a three-day exhibition of goods ‘Namma Angadi’, which are designed and produced by artisans of Namma Bhoomi.
This year in addition to the three-day annual exhibition cum sale of the products, SOC has organised for six workshops to be held in Carpentry, Pottery, Kaavi Painting, Seed Painting, Toy from Trash and Palm Leaf Origami on March 1, 2 and 3. The workshops will start from 10:30 am in the morning till 6 pm in the evening and are open for all age groups.
Founded in 1985, CWC is a non-profit organisation dedicated to tackling issues surrounding child labour and empowering underprivileged children. The NGO is also responsible for the conception of Namma Bhoomi, a community campus housing a residential school for underprivileged children. The proceedings of the event workshops will be going to CWC.
‘Carpentry’ workshop will be held on March 1 at 10:30 am where participants will be engaged in carving wood from scratch using various carving instruments. This will be followed by a ‘Toy from Trash’ workshop, conducted at 4:30 pm which will involve participants to engage in creating innovative toys from regular trash like bottle caps, pen refills, springs, ice-cream sticks, toothpicks, pen caps, rubber band, and the like.
The ‘Kaavi Painting’ workshop which is scheduled to be held on March 2 at 10:30 am, is a workshop on Kaavi art form involving carving and painting of wood. The same day, the ‘Pottery’ workshop will begin at 2:30 pm.
The ‘Seed Painting’ workshop will be carried out on March 3 at 10:30 am. Seed painting involves the use of seeds to create artworks of their choice with the use of various types of seeds. On the same day, ‘Palm Leaf Origami’ workshop will be conducted at 2:30 pm. This workshop will help the participants in learning to make Palm Leaf Origami.
