Mangaluru: Mulki receives government nod to become taluk

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Feb 27: The proposal to upgrade Mulki as a taluk received government nod and the official declaration from the revenue department is expected in a week’s time. The decision was taken at a meeting of ministers and the MLAs.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Umanath Kotian, MLA, Moodabidri said, "The dream of the people of Mulki region is finally coming true. In the last session of the state legislative assembly, I had demanded that Mulki should be declared as a taluk and also raised questions on the slow process. At the time of election, I had promised the people to give their town a taluk status. Now the government is declaring Mulki as a taluk among other five taluks."

During the British rule, Mulki had a moffusil court between 1863-1900. In fact, Mulki even had a police station apart from the one in Mangaluru. Mulki was a important centre in coastal district. Once upon a time Mulki had port, court, excise, customs, PWD offices.

However, the facilities were withdrawn after independence. The people of Mulki have been demanding taluk status for the last 40 years.

Good news for Mulkiyan's, Mulki going to announce taluk centre soon.
Now everyone going to claim the credits. In reality all credit goes to people of Mulki, not any party. Both BJP and Congress party was in power previously, in their period they announced several new taluks except Mulki, they are all ignored, not concentrated on the development of Mulki.

Honourable CM Sri. H.D. Kumaraswamy was the one man he fulfilled our 4 decades dreams and his promise made earlier when he visited Mulki.
We are thankful to CM H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Well....anyways outside coastal Karnataka Mulki is identified as part of mangalore and people of Mulki call themselves as Mangaloreans. It’s better to include these small towns as a part of greater Mangalore as it could more funds from central. Because a city with more than 1 million population is called as metro city as per India and has importance while getting few funds.

Mulki deserves to be a separate taluk with a separate municipality for administrative convenience and taking into consideration the growth in population over the last 3 decades and development in the region. So Mangalore city will be limited up to Pavanje river.
