Mandya, Feb 27: C T Ravi, BJP MLA, paid a visit and consoled the family members of the two youths, who lost their lives when his car hit them recently near Urkehalli Gate on NH 75 of Kunigal Taluk in the district of Tumkur.
C T Ravi visited the official residence of ASP Balaramegowda at Ashoknagar in the city. He was accompanied by many BJP leaders of the district. In addition, the parents of the deceased youths were also present.
Ravi tried to make an out of court settlement with the family members of the deceased. But they did not agree initially and said that they will take divine intervention and walked out. However, in the second round of talks of amicable settlement an assurance to pay Rs two and a half lac to the family of the deceased youths and bearing the complete cost of the treatment of the injured people were given by the MLA.
Speaking to the scribes after the talks with the families of the deceased, Ravi said, "I have to answer the members of the family of the deceased as I was in the car, which was involved in the accident. The car which met with the accident is not mine. I was sleeping in the car when the mishap took place on the fateful night. So I cannot become a witness to the incident."
"I could have visited the families of the deceased in their native place. However, in such a case, even if the parents of the deceased youths will agree with me, the others in the locality will try to create trouble. That is why I have not gone to the native place of the deceased youths. I cannot bring the deceased back. However, on humanitarian grounds, I have offered, whatever help I could give," said C T Ravi.
It is learnt that the MLA did not pressurize the family members of the deceased youths to take back the case as it is not possible to do so also. Hence, Ravi has offered compensation. When the mother of the deceased questioned Ravi that is it possible for him to bring back his son, the MLA replied to consider him as her son.
The mother of the deceased said that she has thought of building a temple in the village in the name of her son and requested the MLA to offer some help. C T Ravi assured the lady of help on the same.
