Mangaluru, Feb 27: The JMFC court here, which found that the charge of causing death of one person and resulting in serious injuries to another in a vehicular accident has been proved, awarded six months jail term and fine of Rs 4,000 to the accused.
The light goods vehicle driver who was given this sentence happens to be Joseph Nelson Baptist.
Nelson was driving his goods vehicle towards the city from the direction of Moodbidri on December 29, 2014. His vehicle had collided with a goods vehicle near Nandini Dairy at Kulshekhar here, before hitting a two-wheeler coming from opposite direction. A person seated inside the light goods vehicle got thrown on to the road in the accident, and died on the spot. The two-wheeler rider suffered serious injuries.
This case was registered by the then police sub-inspector of rural police station, Shivaprakash. Police inspector, Harish Kumar M A, conducted investigation and filed charge sheet in the court.
Judge of the court, Manujunath R, held the accused guilty. Public prosecutor, Mohan Kumar, represented the prosecution.
