Karkala, Feb 27: In an incident which happened late night on Monday February 25, thieves broke open the shutters of Goodwill Enterprises, a shop dealing with electronic items, which is located adjacent to Nandalike Cross near Belman, and took away television sets and cash. The thieves reaped a rich haul of 18 television sets and also about Rs 3,000 in cash found inside the cash counter.
The shop is owned by a person named Sridhar. Electronic items were stored in the shop. Although the owner lives right above the shop in the same building, the theft came to the owner's notice only after the paper delivery boy alerted him.
The theft, it is guessed, happened between 3 to 4 am on Tuesday. The thieves had turned CCTV camera points away from the shop. They also took away the hard disk of the CCTV camera kept inside the shop.
The upper floor of the said shop is occupied by Nandalike gram panchayat. It has CCTV cameras. However, the camera facing the road opposite to the shop is blocked by the panchayat's board. This worked as a boon for the thieves, and the very purpose of installing the camera there was defeated.
A complaint about the theft was registered in Karkala rural police station here. Assistant superintendent of police, Krishnakanth, police circle inspector, Halamurthy, rural station house officer, Nassir Hussain, and officials of district crime intelligence bureau visited the spot and conducted scrutiny. Finger print experts also surveyed the scene of theft.
