Customs officials seize smuggled gold worth over Rs 41 lac at Mangaluru airport

Mangaluru, Feb 26: The officers of customs, Mangaluru International Airport seized gold from two passengers who arrived from Dubai.

The officials, confiscated 925.540 grams worth Rs 31.10 lac, concealed as mercury coated plates inside motor of electrical toy car. The passenger arrived from Dubai by AirIndia Express IX384 on February 25. The passenger was arrested and produced before court.

The officials also seized foreign origin gold (in powder/paste form) concealed in the rectum of another passenger, who arrived from Dubai by Spice Jet flight SG60 on February 24. Gold weighing 304.920 grams worth Rs 10.30 lac was confiscated.

    Once in a week or once in two weeks people get caught in Bajpe Airport. News spread world wide and still people dare to bring Gold. What does they think of officials in airport. Hats off to the officers handling such situations.

    Really,please travel relaxed instead of taking so much trouble and investing a lot of money too so that to hide and travel in anxeity.But last get caught ,gold is lost,money fine ,and your so few days loved holidays lost,why do you want this headache?Gold is available too.may be price is high but not a something unusual.

    I feel people are well aware that they could be caught.

    Hello Rita,

    You are wrong. Gold is not lost even if seize smuggled gold.
    In most of the cases, after court hearing seized Golds are returned after paying duty charges. That's it.
    If there is severe punishment , then people would not have done these acts again and again.
