Mangaluru, Feb 26: State Mahila Congress took out a rally from Mallikatte to Kadri grounds here on Tuesday, February 26, demanding 33 percent seats in the Lok Sabha and legislative assemblies for women.
Addressing the gathering Pushpa said, "Today in every field, women are in the forefront proving that they are equal to men. However, in politics there is no reservation for women in Lok Sabha and legislative assemblies. Congress has always given opportunities for women but reservation is not given in Lok Sabha and legislative assemblies.
“Prior to the elections, Modi had promised to give 33 per cent reservation for women but he failed to keep up to his promises. We condemn the BJP's anti women policies,” said Pushpa Amarnath, president of Pradesh Mahila Congress.
District-in-charge minister U T Khader said, “I congratulate the organisers for this rally demanding 33% reservation. You will get 50% reservation in Congress. Sonia Gandhi has assured to give opportunities for women. Do not wait for reservation as you need to work hard to strengthen the party with an ultimate goal of making Rahul Gandhi as prime minister.”
All India Mahila Congress general secretary Apsara Reddy said, “Rahul Gandhi provided me opportunity in Congress. Even though I am a transgender, he only recognised my talents and skills. I have faced several challenges in society and yet I have reached here.”
AICC secretary Vishnunath, All India Mahila Congress general secretaries Apsara Reddy and Janet D’Souza, District Mahila Congress president Shalet Pinto, corporators Asha D’Silva, Appi and others were present.
Prior to the rally, district Congress lauded India's strikes in Pakistan to destroy terror camps crossing LoC.
