Bengaluru, Feb 26: The state government, which had got presidential assent for the law meant to protect interests of SC/ST employees who were reverted from positions to which they had been promoted earlier, because of faulty reservation-based promotions affected by the government, has decided to go ahead with implementation of the provisions of this act.
The cabinet meeting held on Monday gave its consent for restoring the earlier positions to those who lost promotions because of Supreme Court verdict. Those who took part in the meeting agreed that rules and regulations should be drafted in accordance with the provisions of the new law. It is said that ministers agreed to ensure that the employees who have already been promoted would be retained in those positions and wherever necessary, supernumerary posts would be created afresh to protest the interests of all the employees.
The meeting, in addition, gave its nod for a scheme of providing basic facilities to hostels managed by social welfare department, and proposal of rural development department to build rural roads worth Rs 1,500 crore. It further approved a 'Jaladhara' scheme under which rural water supply system would be augmented at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore. It is reported that a scheme of providing shoes and socks to students of government schools in the state studying from first to tenth standard at a cost of Rs 126 crore during the next academic year was also approved.
The meeting also gave its green single for the first phase of elevated corridor project in the city for which Rs 9,000 crore would be spent for the first phase of 21 km. The project envisages construction of elevated roads from four corners of the city with a length of 102 km at a cost of Rs 24,000 crore.
Sources said that the coalition partners, with an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha election, conducted a marathon meeting for five years and approved various schemes spread over 78 items. Chief minister, Kumaraswamy, and deputy chief minister, Dr G parameshwar, are learnt to have discussed in detail with their colleagues in the cabinet about coming election, implementation of budget proposals, need to hasten loan waiver scheme etc.
