Udupi, Feb 26: Deputy commissioner of the district, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, entered wedded life at a simple function organized on Monday February 25 at Hubballi. She has accepted Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, presently posted as the commissioner land acquisition, Resettlement and Rehablitation, Upper Krishna Project, Bagalkot.
Ghosh, who is of Bengali origin, hails from Sahibganj on the border of Jharkhand with West Bengal. Hephsiba Rani is of Vijayawada origin. She is a 2011 batch IAS officer. The marriage was solemnized at the office of the registrar of marriages at Hubballi in the presence of a handful of family members and select dignitaries.
When Ghosh was working as chief executive officer of Bidar zilla panchayat, Hephsiba was posted as assistant commissioner at Basavakalyana. Later when he worked as deputy commissioner of Kalaburagi, Hephsiba was chief executive officer of Kalaburagi zilla panchayat. After marriage, the couple distributed sweets, and also cast their sample vote in the electronic voting machine kept for exhibition in the same office.
Senior IAS officers, R Vishal, P C Jaffer, Sunil Panwar, and Susheela signed the documents as witnesses. Dharwad deputy commissioner, Deepa Cholan, BRTS managing director, Rajendra Cholan, chief conservator of forests, D Mahesh Kumar and others extended best wishes to the newlywed couple. Simple food by way of lunch was offered in the premises of sub-registrar's office for the guests.
Hephsiba's father, Korlapati Vijaya Kumar, chief technical adviser to the AP Township And Infrastructure Development Corporation, who was present at the wedding, said that he was happy that the couple decided to get married at a simple function.
Ghosh, a 2009 batch IAS officer, earlier had worked as deputy commissioner of Uttara Kannada and Kalaburagi districts. He also functioned as special officer for Belagavi session of the legislature. Hephsiba Rani Korlapati worked as chief executive officer at Kalaburagi and Chamarajanagar, and managing director of Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Special Purpose Vehicle. She was also the commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation for sometime. She took charge as deputy commissioner here on February 7.
Hephsiba said that both of them had filed their applications a month back and that both of them got married by availing leave on Monday. "We wanted to keep the marriage function simple. Elders from both the families were present to bless us," she stated.
Hephsiba would be visiting New Delhi on Tuesday. She would be arriving here from New Delhi the same evening.
