Udupi, Feb 25: "Organizing the party is my first priority. I will not work sitting inside the office. This position is not a bed of roses. This is a tough and responsible post," said Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, new district president of the Congress party.
Ashok was speaking after taking over charge from outgoing president Janardhan Tonse in the Congress Bhavan of the city on Sunday, February 24. Ashok further said, "All the leaders have to unite and strengthen the hands of the workers during election time. Similarly, only if we work day and night under their guidance it is possible to get good result."
"We have lots of expectations from the coming Lok Sabha elections. So every decision we take will be vital. The present MP of Udupi is completely inactive. The Congress party has to exploit the benefit of this. The party needs to be organized with the cooperation of everyone," added Ashok Kumar.
Ashok Kumar further said, "Politics and social service are different. Politics will be meaningful only through social service. Congress is a group of people. If we understand the ideals of our party we can reach our specific goal easily. The thought of the opposition party is favouring the capitalists. They are interfering into the constitution and democracy. The Congress in the district lags behind in power campaign and the job of giving pace to it should be done."
Outgoing president Janardhan Tonse said, "None of the Congress leaders of the district have interfered in my responsibility. Those are all misconceptions. I have organized the party with the support of all the Congress leaders of the district."
