Bengaluru, Feb 24: BJP president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurppa on Sunday held the H D Kumaraswamy-led JD(S)-Congress coalition government responsible for the destruction of over 300 cars in a fire accident at the parking area of the Air Force Station at Yelahanka during the Aero India show in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Yeddyurappa, who is also the Opposition leader in the State Assembly, also demanded a high level probe to identify culprits who were responsible for the accident.
Addressing a press conference at the party office, the former Chief Minister said the fire accident had left damaged more than 300 cars of people who come to witness the air show.
“The coalition government has miserably failed to take fire safety measures near the air show venue which comes under the purview of the state’” he alleged.
On Saturday, Home Minister M B Patil said a thorough investigation would be conducted to find out the cause.
"When terrorist activities were on the rise in the country, why state government had not taken safety measures?’’ the BJP leader asked. He wanted to know, "Why no fire tenders were parked at the spot as a precautionary measure?"
Stating that the Defence Ministry was only responsible for holding the air show at the Air Force Station, Yeddyurappa claimed that “it is the total responsibility of the state government to make peripheral arrangements and take fire safety measures” during the event.
Listing out lapses on the part of the State government, Yeddyurappa alleged that “H D Kumaraswamy and Home minister M B Patil are guilty of the incident.’’
BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje has also blamed the government for not looking after the safety and security aspects at the Aeroshow.
