Ramanagar, Feb 23: Walking in the footsteps of Saalumarada Thimmakka is Ninganna of Ramanagar.
A resident of Arehalli village, Ninganna’s love for nature is seen through his actions. Over the last 20 years he single-handedly planted over thousand saplings and is caring for them.
A daily wage worker, Ninganna brought saplings from forest department and started planting them in rows between Bilagumba-Arehalli. He dug pits near Basaveshwar temple and with the help of his wife and son, planted the saplings and watered them which have today grown into mighty trees.
Ninganna incurred losses in agriculture several times and does not have property passed down from his ancestors. But yet, his concern towards environment made him buy 950 saplings from the forest department. Raviraj, a person hailing from Ninganna’s village says several trees in Udyanavana and Malavalli were planted by Ninganna.
Ninganna has become an inspiration and role model to people of his village and also surrounding villages. His selfless act has earned him love and respect.
