Mangalore, Feb. 4: A person from Fajeer near Derlakatte was assaulted by some miscreants late evening on Monday February 2.
"They assaulted me, after identifying me as a Christian and observing that my jeep bore the name ' Vailankani' said Albert D'Souza, who is under treatment in a private hospital here, for injuries sustained in the assault.
Albert D'Souza, a businessman, is a resident of Kapikad in Fajeer near Derlakatte. "The miscreants at first, shattered the windshield of my jeep before assaulting me," he narrated.
He had been to the workshop to repair his jeep. There were a few of his relatives with him in the jeep, but they escaped unhurt. Albert was driving the jeep, when the incident occurred.
"The incident occurred at around 7.30 pm, when my jeep was parked near the work shop, which is next to a bar. The miscreants came from the same bar or from a temple nearby. The miscreants were uttering something about my religion," he said.
Albert was admitted to the private hospital with injuries to his head. Treatment is going on in the general ward.
"He never participated in any of the disturbances or related activities. He was targeted merely because of his religious affiliation," says Cecilia D'Souza, Albert’s wife, who is with him at the hospital.
A case has been registered in Konaje police station, based on Albert’s statement. The first information report prepared by the police mentions that a gang of five miscreants attacked him. Investigation is on.
