Bantwal, Feb 4: The annual day celebration of St Patrick’s parish units of Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) and Young Christian Students (YCS), Siddakatte, near here, was held on Sunday February 1.
Mangalore diocesan ICYM director Fr Anil D’Souza offered the Eucharist along with diocesan YCS director Fr Ronald Prakash D’Souza. It was attended by hundreds of ICYM and YCS members, and parishioners.
Fr Anil D’Souza, in his homily to the gathering, said that the youth were the assets of the church.
Siddakatte St Patrick’s parish priest Fr Valerian D’Souza presided over the stage programme at 5.00 pm on Sunday.
Modankap parish youth leader Dolphy Prashant D’Souza and diocesan ICYM vice-president Arun D’Souza of Vamadapadav parish, and Siddakatte parish council vice-president Ronald Fernandes, were the guests of honour.
Dolphy D’Souza, speaking on the occasion, urged ICYM members to take an active role in politics, give up the greed for Gulf jobs, and to instead aspire for secure government jobs and to try to come into the national mainstream.
Group dance and singing competitions were held at 5.30 pm on Sunday. A musical concert was staged by ‘Nightingale’ music group. ‘Kutma Moulya Puran’, a Konkani Yakshagana play was staged by parish youth and directed by Fr Roshan Crasta. ‘Amka Lottery Utlya’ a Konkani drama by playwright J B D’Souza was also staged on the occasion.
ICYM president Naveen Moras, secretary Priscilla Moras, advisors John D’Silva, YCS vice-president and secretary were present on the dais.
Lawyer Richard D’Costa was felicitated on being appointed the registrar of Christian marriages. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions.
Jackson, Iona, and Marita, compered the programme. Prakash Siddakatte provided assistance. Over 1,000 viewers were present on the occasion.
