Udupi, Feb 3: Registrar of Manipal University Dr G K Prabhu presented the prestigious Alevoor Group Award-09, instituted by Alevoor Group for Education (AGE), to renowned advocate, writer and social activist from the city, Shirtady William Pinto, recently.
Pinto was chosen for this award for his contribution in creating awareness on the benefits of Karnataka Land Reforms Act and also for creating political awareness among the representatives of panchayat bodies.
In his acceptance address, Pinto expressed his strong belief that education is the only tool with which all kinds of injustices could be fought.
President of AGE A Ganapathi Kini presided over the programme. Past Lions district governor Dr Raveendranath Shetty released the bulletin 'Around Alevoor'. Assistant education officer Ashok Kamat, retired medical officer Dr K K Kalkur, retired navy personnel Kamalaksha Shenoy, vice president of AGE A Ganesh Kini, secretary A Dinesh Kini, treasurer A Hareesh Kini and others were present at the dais.
Students of Shantiniketan Lower Primary School, Alevoor, presented variety cultural programmes.
