Mangaluru, Feb 20: After the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district made is mandatory for property owners to have property cards for all transactions with affect from February 1 within the city corporation limits here, there has been huge rush at the Urban Property Ownership Records office here.
With the increased pressure, there have been confusions and doubts about certain properties and how to address problems encountered by officials. The district administration has been finding it hard to deal with these doubts and provide immediate solutions to the problem. Because of technical reasons, some issues cannot be sorted out immediately. Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, who noted that there has been some confusion over registration of property cards and distribution, assured that all these problems would be addressed within a month.
The district administration is aware that certain land mafia have been undertaking behind-the-scene exercises against making property cards mandatory, as encroachment of government property by them would be revealed in this exercise. The middlemen too tend to lose as property cards will provide conclusive record about ownership, and hence they too are against it.
So far, out of a thousand applications received by the office, property cards have been issued to 752.
The deputy commissioner has called for a meeting of bankers on February 20 to address problems encountered by banks in disbursal of home and land development loans because of the need to meet property card requirement.
