Udupi, Feb 20: Two monkey carcasses were found in the district, one each at Mayigundi in Hebri and Punkedadi in Iruvathur, on Tuesday February 19. However, postmortem could not be conducted as both the bodies were decomposed.
On Tuesday, survey relating to Kyasanur Forest Disease,also known as monkey fever, covered 3,674 more houses spread over 79 hamlets of the district. With this, the total number of houses surveyed reached 92,354. Blood samples of 41 persons were sent to the laboratory and 40 have tested negative, and the other report is awaited.
The survey has been jointly undertaken by health and family welfare department, department of animal husbandry, forest, and panchayat raj department.
On Tuesday, four persons from Shivamogga district got admitted into Kasturba Medical College Hospital Manipal with suspected monkey fever infection. All of them are from Shivamogga district. The total number of persons who got admitted into this hospital with suspected monkey fever so far has risen to 203. Monkey fever infection was found in a person from Siddapur in Uttara Kannada district who got admitted here recently. A total of four persons from Uttara Kannada district were found to have been infected with monkey fever so far.
