Mangalore, Feb 1: The students of the Master of Social Work course urged the President of India, Prathiba Patil, to safeguard the constitutional rights of the citizens of the city on Saturday January 31.
Submitting a memorandum to the president through district commissioner V Ponnuraj, they claimed that the fabric of Mangalorean society had been threatened by the radical activities of vigilante groups in recent months. The recent pub attack has shocked the city and angered the public. The violent assault on a group of women in the pub by activists of a radical vigilante group is to be condemned in the most unambiguous terms, they stated.
They also mentioned that visuals of the attack flashed across various channels provides ample proof and confirms that the incident was anything but exaggerated.
Copies of the memorandum have also been sent to the prime minister, governor, chief minister, president, mayor, commissioner, chief executive of the zilla panchayat, and the superintendent of police.
