Udupi, Jan 31: Inexpensive and affordable jewellery made from stones, bamboo, seeds or even wheat dough is gaining acceptance and is in fashion these days. This was evident at the two-day Fashion Jewellery workshop was organized by Manipal Institute of Jewellery Management (MIJM) at Manipal on Friday January 30 and Saturday January 31.

Inaugurated by Sandhya S Pai, managing editor, Taranga and with resource persons and designers from across the state, the conference saw the participation of over 100 women and students on the first day itself.

Ullasker De from Regional Design & Technical Development Centre, Bangalore gave a detailed account of making inexpensive jewellery using terracotta, bamboo and paper pulp. Roshan Revankar from Karwar Ornaments also delivered a lecture and demonstration on making of silver jewellery. Prasanna Bhat, hobby teacher from the city conducted practical classes in making of imitation jewellery. An exhibition cum sale of silver, imitation and terracotta jewellery attracted large number of people.
