Kundapur, Jan 29: The news of the tragic death of an engineering student on the Balebare ghat road on Tuesday January 27 because of the irresponsible behaviour of a constable belonging to Shankarnarayan police station was carried in these columns on Wednesday January 28.
In a surprising development, the young constable named S N Bhaskar (32), who was accused of being indirectly responsible for the student's death in a complaint filed by the Karnataka Power Corporation Employees Union, died late night on Tuesday January 27, at K M C Hospital.
At the site of the accident, the local people reportedly thrashed him. After the incident, he felt unwell and was admitted into a private hospital in Kundapur. For advanced treatment, he was then taken to Manipal K M C Hospital. Late night on Tuesday, he breathed his last, after failing to respond to treatments.
He is survived by wife and a small child. His body was brought to the district armed forces office in Kundapur, where last respects were paid. Later, it was taken to his native place Ulloor near Byndoor.
Shankarnarayana police have registered a case. Kundapur circle inspector Valentine D'Souza is guiding the investigation.
