Mangaluru: DNA samples found matching - grip on Ravi Poojary tightens

Mangaluru, Feb 14: The DNA samples of underworld fugitive, Ravi Poojary, who is currently in the custody of Senegal police at West Africa, have been found matching with those of his family members. This has effectively dampened his attempts to secure a release from the clutches of the policemen there by claiming himself to be Antony Fernandes, not Ravi Poojary.

At the same time, efforts being made by Indian authorities to get him extradited have been given further impetus.

When Poojary was arrested by the Senegal police, he was holding a passport standing in a fake name, Antony Fernandes. Sources said that the New Delhi and Mumbai police had collected blood samples of Ravi's mother and a sister living at Noida near New Delhi and sent them to Senegal. Earlier, his finger print samples had been sent and they too were found matching.

Ravi Poojary, in the meanwhile, sought additional security from Senegal police for him through his lawyers, duly expressing the suspicion that some underworld elements are planning to execute him. It is gathered that he has already revealed to the Interpol and Senegal police about some of his murky activities. It is said that as per his version, some top police officers from Mumbai had joined hands in his criminal activities and some former underworld fugitives were behind the collection of protection money.

Several criminals and police are believed to be apprehensive about the chances of their dark deals coming into the open and behind the scene plans are under way to kill him in that country. Ravi who got wind of this plan, has sought to beef up his security, it is learnt.

As per the request of Ravi Poojary, Senegal has provided additional security by way of armed commandos, sources said.
