Mangaluru: Sari catches fire - woman dies at hospital

Mangaluru, Feb 13: A woman who was hospitalized after suffering severe burns, passed away on Tuesday February 12 without responding to treatments. The victim of this incident was Sarita (23), a native of Uttar Pradesh.

Sarita was living with her husband, Santosh from Uttar Pradesh, who works as carpenter, in a rented house in Suneel Compound, Kantaraj Lane, Mannagudda here. Sarita, who had finished cooking by using gas stove on the night of January 12 at around 10 pm, was keeping the utensil down when the edge of her sari caught fire all of a sudden. Flames engulfed her within seconds and she raised an alarm. Santosh came rushing to her rescue and doused the flames but most of her body had already been burnt. She was rushed to a private hospital in the city after which she was referred to Wenlock Hospital. She was being treated in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

A case of unnatural death stands registered in Barke police station relating to this incident.
