Udupi: Monkey fever scare unabated - five more carcasses found

Udupi, Feb 13: Five carcasses of monkeys were found on Tuesday February 12, one each at Agrahara Chantaru in Brahmavar, Kenjoor in Karje, Kalavar in Korgi village, Mundkoor in Ajekar, and Havanje within the limits of Kolalgiri primary health centre.

So far monkey fever virus has not been detected in any of the humans in the district so far although 31 were subjected to testing for suspected monkey fever.

The departments claim that they hold enough stock of DMP oil, medicines etc to regulate this disease if and when it surfaces. Various measures have been undertaken by the department of animal husbandry in association with forest department and gram panchayats to control the spread of this disease. Health department officials said that special gram sabhas are also being organized to spread awareness about the disease.
