Mangaluru, Jan 28: District Youth Parliament Festival -2019, jointly organised by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (Government of India), Directorate of National Service Scheme, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and St Agnes College (Autonomous) was held at St Agnes College auditorium on Monday, January 28.
Vineetha K, NSS Coordinator, Mangaluru University inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Sr Dr Jeswina A.C, principal, St Agnes College presided over the programme. Stany Bela, journalist, Daijiworld Media, Merline Martis, director DEEDS, Madhura, assistant professor, Carmel Degree College, Modankap, Nelvita C Noronha, advocate were present on the dais.
Delivering the inaugural address, Vineetha said, “Youth Parliament is a golden opportunity for youth to expresses their opinions on various national issues. It helps them know India in depth and give their suggestions for nation building. Youth are one of the leading categories in our population. Their interests, opinions always stand first in our country. Their active participation in nation building helps to make India a powerful nation in the world. Knowing this the ministry of youth affairs and sports are conducting ‘Youth Parliament Festival’ every year. It is the right stage for youth to express their ideas and opinions on nation building.”
In her presidential address, Sr Dr Jeswina A.C said, "Youth are the voice of the society. By their energetic and aggressive nature they can convert any negatives into positive. People are expecting more from them and entire nation wants to properly use their power. It is not easy to for a common man’s voice to reach centre of the administration in such populated countries. The innovative programmes like Youth Parliament by government, creates a platform to express one’s thoughts on nation and its issues. The management of St Agnes is very happy to organise such programmes because it is our responsibility to plant the seed of national integrity and national interest in the minds of students and youth."
Selected students from Mangaluru, Udupi and Kodagu districts participated in festival.
Uday Kumar welcomed the dignitaries and participants. The winners of the festival are eligible to attend the state level Youth Parliament festival.
