Chikkaballapur, Jan 28: In a heart rending incident reported from the town, a woman, who believed the prediction made by an astrologer that the future of her children was not bright, killed her two children and hanged herself. This incident happened during the early hours on Sunday January 27.
The woman who ended her life was V R Usha (32), resident of Sir M V Layout here, and the children she killed were Shanvita (30 months) and Shamant (10). Shamant was a third standard student.
Usha had approached an astrologer a few days back to learn about the future of her children. The astrologer, who made calculations based on birth calendars, reportedly told her that her children's future does not hold promise. Usha, who was worried, had raised this topic many a time and held discussions with her husband, Ashok, and her sisters. Her husband had told her not to lose heart, adding that the words of astrologers should not be relied on.
Usha's husband had left to his native place, Abludu, on Saturday to repair a pump in the farm there. At about 2 am on Sunday, Usha fed sleeping pills to both the children and then strangled them to death. She then hanged herself.
Ashok works as physical education teacher of the government high school here. He had married Usha 12 years back.
Ashok had called his wife on Sunday morning but did not get a response. Then he called his neighbours and asked them to call his wife so that he could talk to her. The neighbours went to Usha's residence and found to their horror that the mother and her two children were no more.
