Mangaluru, Jan 27: CCB police have arrested Subramanya Bhat (45), a resident of Sullia and Nisar (54), a resident of Kollam district in Kerala for hatching a plan to sell a bronze idol for Rs two crore saying that it is made of Panchaloha (alloy of five metals).
Both the accused had called the mobile number of a resident in the city and made him believe that they have a idol made of Panchaloha for sale costing around Rs two crore and also sent the photographs of the same via WhatsApp. The buyer got suspected about the deal and informed the CCB police.
This idol made of bronze was actually bought by a person from a trader of the city for Rs four lac. However, the buyer was not satisfied with the idol and sold the same to a shop in Car Street in the city for Rs 30,000. The accused who got to know about this idol, bought it for Rs 60,000 and were trying to sell the same saying that it is made of Panchaloha. The police who got definite information about the fraudsters
arriving by car conducted an operation and apprehended both the culprits.
In the operation that was conducted under the guidance of T R Suresh, city police commissioner, DCPs, Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashant and ACP Bhaskar Vokkaliga, PSI Kabbalraj, Ashitraj, Mani and Pandeshwar inspector Mohammed Sharif, PSI Rajendra took part.
