Mangaluru, Jan 26: District in-charge minister U T Khader inaugurated the three-day fruit and flower show organized by the department of horticulture and district administration at Kadri Park here on Saturday, January 26.
Speaking on the occasion, U T Khader said, "It is an opportunity for the visitors from in and around the city to come in large numbers to witness this flower show. The show consists of variety of flowers, saplings, seed stalls and many more. There are beautifully done models of ship, cone, tea pot and many more at this unique flower show,”
"We are also looking for a feasibility study of river tourism development from Kundapur to Kasargod, which will also be proposed during the upcoming budget,” added Khader.
Various groups of horticulture department, co-operatives societies and different organizations are taking part in this event. The floral model of floating ship, tea pot, and cone at the exhibition are special attractions. The unique model has been made of roses, carnations, lilies and other flowers.
Besides, there are variety of flowers such as Topiyari, Anthurium, Orchid and many more. In addition, the department has displayed rows of bottle gourd, ridge gourd, bitter gourd, radish, spinach, pumpkin and other vegetables at the show along with various stalls of seeds, fertilizers, handicraft items and agricultural machinery.
For the models of cone, 2,000 roses have been used, for ships 2000 carnations, 300 bundles of white and blue daisies have been used. For tea pot as many as 2,000 carnation flowers have been used. The total cost for the model flowers is Rs 15 lac, and the ship model cost Rs 4 lac which has taken almost 3 months for preparation.
MLC Ivan D Souza, Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Selvamani R, deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil and others were present.
