Udupi, Jan 26: The district level 70th Republic Day celebrations held here were marked by patriotic spirit with pomp. The programme was held at Mahatma Gandhi Open theatre ground, Beedinagudde here on Saturday, January 26.
District-in-charge minister, Dr Jayamala, hoisted the national flag , while Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, deputy commissioner, Priyanka Mary Francis, Laxman B Nimbargi, district Superintendent of police and others were present.
Dr Jayamala, addressing the audience, said, ‘we need to put effort towards maintaining peace in the country.
She revealed that a sum of Rs 9.89 crore has been sanctioned under SFC and 14 th Finance Commission for five local bodies and basic works are taken up for the construction.
Under the housing scheme, the district administration has fixed a target of 1624, of which 682 eligible homeless families have been selected under different housing projects for the year 2018-19, she noted.
For the year 2018-19 supplement nutrition food supply plan, there are 56,202 beneficiaries and the government has born expenses of Rs 961.91 lac. Around 182 children are suffering from severe malnutrition, she informed.
Under Ksheera Bhagya, a total of 50,790 children are getting benefits and for that, the government has have spent Rs 367.17 lac.
Under health and family welfare department, the total population of the district is is 11,77,361. Out of them, 5,62,131 are male and 6,15,230 are female.
The food department has distributed 1,84,869 ration cards, out of which 29, 209 Anthyodhaya cards and 155660 are BPL cards, she noted.
On this occasion, the minister was briefed about the developmental works, under construction project reports on the occasion.
A beautiful march past was taken out by the students, armed police, police department, NCC cadets of various schools across the district on the occasion.
Cultural programmes with the essence of devoted nationalistic fervour marked the republic day celebrations.
Some officials of fire stations were honoured on the occasion, in reconition of their recue operations during flood.
The sports persons, who participated in national level sports were also honoured.
A bull belonging to the top cattle breed ‘Ongole’ which had won the show held at Sindhanur in Raichur district, was the special attraction today.
