Mississauga, Canada Jan 12: Mangalorean Friendship Series Initiative (MFSI) organized the winter session of games at the River Grove Community Centre here on Saturday January 10.
It was an afternoon of volleys and thunder. 13 volleyball teams inclusive of an all-women team and two all-women throwball teams took part in action-packed hours of games that were intensely fought with sportsmanship. These games are held for bringing the community together.
It's a rare sight these days to see school and university students and their parents in the same forum together. And this is what happened at the MFSI Volleyball/Throw ball tournament. Parents and their children were seen participating in the same teams with those on the sidelines egging them on. The turnout of 100 participating and 30 on the sidelines was better than expected, taking into account the snowfall and also the fact that a few late arrivals had to be denied registration. The buzz was thrilling and kept the adrenaline flowing. The Mississauga News, a local newspaper, covered the event.
The umpiring was professional throughout the 18-game session, with the finale being a three-game nail biting final between Potlimar and Pit Bulls, which went down to the wire, with Potlimar holding their nerve (15-12, 12-15, 15-12) and carrying the trophy away. Women power surged through the ladies throw ball event (15-12, 15-12). Ravens flew away with the all women volleyball match (15-12).
Wilson D'Souza (BMO) and Reynold Sequeira (RE/MAX) who organized and sponsored this event under the banner of MFSI have profusely thanked all those who participated and volunteered in making this community event a resounding success and have expressed of their plans to continue this forum of sporting activity and community spirit every quarter.
