Tumkuru, Jan 23: A video of an eight standard student of Siddaganga math regretting over devotees wasting food has gone viral.
The student identified as Shivu, was one of the volunteers who helped math staff to serve meals to over one lac devotees who attended the last rites of Shivakumar Swamiji on Tuesday.
Shivu in the video speaking to a reporter tells that people don’t know the value of rice as they have become rich. “Food was wasted in the math since 8 am on Tuesday. When math staff came to know that people were throwing food, they asked volunteers to serve limited portions to ensure it does not happen. Even I stopped a devotee who was about to throw rice as he did not have patience to wait for sambar,” he said.
“While some devotees threw rice as they could not wait for sambar, some said they are too full and cannot eat. However, I made sure that sambar is served and stopped them from wasting food,” Shivu says.
“People in the cities have become rich. Therefore, they do not know the value of rice. People now long for water. They may long for rice later. My elder brother used to go to school eating only Ganji. Our sir had taught us not to waste rice when we went to Shravanabelagola,” he adds.
