Byndoor, Jan 21: Severed ears and legs of a pig were found to have been disposed off in front of Noor Jumma Masjid at Nagur in Kirimanjeshwar village in the taluk. Reportedly, two miscreants were behind this act. Police personnel from the station here, in an operation, arrested some persons relating to the incident.
The arrested persons have been identified as Naveen Kharvi Tondemakki (24), Sridhar Kharvi (25) from Ammanavara Toplu, Raghu alias Raghavendra Kharvi (23), Tarapati, Ravichandra and Nagaraj, residing in and around Uppunda village here.
Two persons who arrived near the said mosque at about 11 pm on the night of January 14 had parked their motor bike in front of the mosque and thrown a gunny bag containing the ears and legs of the pig into the compound of the mosque before leaving. The incident, which was recorded in the CCTV camera of the mosque, came to light the next morning.
The accused had arrived in a black FZ motor bike. The police soon identified them to be young men living near Byndoor. Under the guidance of Kundapur deputy superintendent of police, Dinesh Kumar, these five accused were arrested on Sunday, January 20.
It is said that the arrested accused, during their questioning, revealed that Ravichandra had drawn up the entire plan and that the plan was hatched in his residence. The accused were produced in court upon which they were remanded to judicial custody.
With the fall in the number of incidents meant to flare up communal passions in the coast since sometime, the police here had heaved a sigh of relief. But the above incident which happened a week back had put the police in a tizzy. A few months back, BJP leaders had staged a protest, seeking the transfer of police sub-inspector here, Thimmesh. Now limbs of the swine were found to have been thrown inside the mosque compound. Apparently this was done with the specific aim of whipping up communal backlash. The police, who have arrested the accused, are probing the incident.
