Bantwal, Jan 9: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Madanthyar unit had organised inter ward kabaddi and lagori tournament on January 6 at Sacred Heart PU College ground.
Fr Basil Vas, parish priest, Madanthyar Church presided over the programme and chief guest was Fr Lancy Lewis, superior of Asha Deepa. Assistant parish priest of Madanthyar church and principal of SHPU College Fr Alwyn D’Souza, Fr Jerome D’Souza, parish council secretary Leo Rodrigues, ICYM Beltangady deanery president Vivian Fernandes, ICYM Madanthyar president Ronson Veigas, and sports secretary Avil D’Souza were the dignitaries on the dais at the inaugural programme.
The programme was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the guests. Ronson Veigas welcomed the guests and the gathering. Fr Basil Vas addressed the gathering with his presidential speech and wished best of luck to all. Avil D’Souza, sports secretary, proposed the vote of thanks and Lavita Fernandes, secretary of ICYM Madanthyar unit, compered the inaugural programme.
Events like lagori for women and kabaddi day night match for men were conducted successfully. As many as 18 teams among 22 wards participated actively. Mother Theresa ward won the lagori tournament and Our Lady of Dolores ward won the kabaddi tournament. Winners were awarded with cash prize and trophies. All the ward gurkars and ward representatives extended their support to the event.
