Dubai, Jan 7: Prof Dr Zita Lobo was honoured as “distinguished leader in higher education in Humanities and Social sciences at the 2nd Higher Education Leadership Meet (HELM2019)held at Le Royal Meridien in Chennai on January 5. She was one of the fifteen selected nominees for the award in this category.
The leadership meet focused the emerging trends in higher education 4.0: Educating for the 4th Industrial revolution and on leveraging the power of youth in higher education leadership.
M S Sudha- director welcomed the participants representing five countries-Oman, Jordan, UAE, Malaysia and India. Prof Hassan Said Kashoob, Dhofar University delivered the presidential address. Prof Hany Dowidar, from Abu Dhabi University in his address focused on exploring strategies on best practices, mentoring and student retention. Prof Dr Debadatta Panigrahi, the Chief Academic Officer of RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, UAE spoke on role of a teacher in a multicultural modern education system.
The higher education leadership awards (HELA ) is instituted by the Centre for Leadership Development of Venus International Foundation which honours and celebrates the efforts of higher education leaders who have developed and improved the teaching culture in an institution. The vision of the Trust is to ‘Celebrate Brilliant Minds of the World.’
Dr Zita Lobo was nominated by Rak Medical and Health Sciences University for her contribution to curriculum development, professional development and varied research in Pedagogy. Currently she is the chairperson of the general education department of Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical and Nursing Colleges of the RAK University.
The HELM 2019 discussed approaches to institutional and programme assessment, including working with accreditors, understanding compliance trends, and executing a strategic plan. Deliberation also included best practices for hiring and developing faculty, including ways to design a fruitful faculty development program, foster a collegial department, and conduct effective hiring searches.
