Kundapur, Dec 25: The movement of ore laden trucks had stopped since the last about three months after the demand for the ore fell globally due to recession, providing tremendous relief to the users of the national highway 17. However, since the last two to three days, the trucks have resumed operations on the highway, throwing traffic to disarray, damaging the road and raising clouds of dust, giving rise to a pathetic situation for the people and vehicles using the highway.
Reportedly, demand for the iron ore in the international market has picked up after a temporary lull. The ore trucks thereafter, had started dumping the ore at Karwar. The citizens there had protested against the problems created by these trucks. In view of the ensuing by-poll scheduled in Karwar, movement of these trucks was restricted to ease traffic congestion there.
The trucks therefore, have turned towards Mangalore, creating problems to every one. The people are hoping that the movement of these trucks on this stretch of the highway will only be temporary.
