Mangaluru, Jan 2: The newly appointed superintendent of police (SP) of Dakshina Kannada district, B M Lakshmi Prasad stressed upon developing trust between public and Police.
Addressing media here on Wednesday, January 2, Lakshmi Prasad said, "Public should not be afraid of police while approaching the police station. At the same time, police need to respect the public and public should respect the police, which is my principle. We want to take forward 'Police-friendly police station' concept. Whenever a complainant arrives at the police station with a problem, we should first hear the person and ensure that we remove the fear of the person towards the police station,"
"I want to strengthen the beat system and make it successful. There is certain system in beat system which should be fortified," Lakshmi Prasad added.
When asked about the DK district termed as a sensitive area, Lakshmi Prasad replied, "All districts are sensitive. Dakshina Kannada district is highly sensitive. There is nothing that cannot be handled. If the relationship between the public and the police is good, then 50% of the problem is sorted out and rest 50% will be sorted out with regular policing."
When asked about sand mining, Lakshmi Prasad said, "I am yet to study the situation. Action will definitely be taken against illegal sand mining,"
When asked about lower-ranked police officers supporting communal violence, Lakshmi Prasad said, "I have not heard about such cases. If such things do happen, that will not be entertained and action will be taken,"
B M Lakshmi Prasad, an officer of 2014 IPS batch, is 31 years of age and hails from Kudremukh. He completed computer science engineering at KV College of Engineering Bengaluru. He worked foran IT before joining the police force.
Lakshmi Prasad served as an ASP of Bagalakote in 2016 and then in the anti-naxal force in Chikkamagaluru from January 2018 to October 2018. He then served as SP of internal security division (CCT centre for counter terrorism) Bengaluru before joining as SP of Dakshina Kannada district.
