Kundapur, Dec 31: Siddapur, located amid lush green environment of Western Ghats witnessed a unique initiative, green marriage, on December 30. The venue was Anantapadmanabha hall in Siddapur.
During the entire marriage function, plastic and paper were not used. Flowers, green leaves, vegetables etc were used to decorate the hall. The newlywed couple also welcomed everyone, having been covered all around with greenery.
Shamita, daughter of Manjunath Acharya and Vanaja couple from Ulthoor village in the taluk married Sharad, son of Baburaya Acharya and Vanaja couple from Bejjavalli in Thirthahalli taluk on December 30, surrounded with green things and green environment devoid of artificial things.
It was ensured that plastic and paper were not used even for serving of food. In recognition of this green feat, president of Siddapur gram panchayat, Sarojini Shetty, awarded green certificates to the newlyweds and blessed the couple. Gram panchayat members, village development officers, Sridhar Kamath and Sathish Naik, supervisor of solid waste and effluents resources management unit, Shashikala, etc were present.
