The naxals were speaking in Malayalam. When returning to forest after buying essentials from a shop at Avikkal, they distributed pamphlets titled ‘Katu Thee' (forest fire) in Malayalam, the locals told the police. It is said that the gang members included members of CPI Maoist organization, Jayanna, Sundari, Savitri, and Jisha. Several pro-naxal wallpapers were found pasted in public places. The police said that as per their information, T P Moideen, Ramu and Kavita were also in the gang.

The pamphlet criticizes leftist government for undertaking ‘wall of women' campaign relating to allowing women entry into Lord Ayyappa shrine at Sabrimala.

District superintendent of police, Dr A Srinivas, said that Thunderbolt (Anti Naxal Force) policemen have been keeping close vigil in places like Chandera, Adoor, Rajapuram etc for the movement of naxals. District superintendents of police of Kannur, Wayanad and Palakkad districts have also been told to be on high alert on the issue.
