Kerala, Dec 28: Habib Rehman (25) from Wayanad Kalpetta, who has been accused of involvement with ISIS recruitment from Kerala, was produced in the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court at Kochi on Thursday December 27. Rehman is one of the accused charged with recruiting 14 persons from the district to ISIS.
Rehman has been named as 17th accused in the case. The NIA special court remanded him to 30 days judicial custody. NIA has already filed an application seeking Rehman's custody for five days. The court will take up this application on Monday.
NIA had registered a case accusing Rehman of helping people to escape to Afghanistan on their way to join ISIS from Padanna here in 2016. It is said that he along with another accused, Nasiddul Hamsafar, was in constant contact with the members of the team which went to Afghanistan through WhatsApp and other social websites. They were mostly in contact with Abdul Rashid Abdulla and Ashfaque Majeed, In 2017, when they were on way to ISIS centre via Muscat, they were arrested and handed back to Indian officials. NIA took custody of the accused and registered a case against him.
