Bengaluru: 75 per cent Karnataka's taluks declared drought-hit

Daijiword Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Dec 26: Of the 176 taluks in Karnataka, more than 75 per cent are declared drought-hit.

Minister for Revenue R V Deshapande at a press conference in Bengaluru on Wednesday, December 26 said that the state government was forced to add 56 taluks to the present list of 100, as per central government’s guidelines due to the loss in rabi crop.

“Rabi crop such as chickpea, wheat, potato, cotton, onion, millet are withering due to lack of moisture in atmosphere. With lack of rains especially in North Karnataka, the situation has worsened,” he said.

During the rabi season sowing was done in only 26 lac hectare, unlike the 31 lac hectare. Rabi crop withering was seen in over 28 lac hectare, mostly in North Karnataka and hence the cabinet sub-committee chaired by him recommended the additional 56 taluks, he said.

Our Govt. planning for SMART CITIES, and not bothered for improving the life of villagers, farmers, if the farmer don't cultivate then what people will eat by sitting inside A/C room, traveling on luxury vehicles and leaving in MSBs.

This is the high time to think for the future, we want bullet train, smart cities or we want farmers and villages need development and welfare.

Maharashtra is almost drought free now and another couple of years it will be completely drought free state. All thanks to Paani Foundation and Mr. Amir Khan. Why can't all over India state and central governments educate people and help them in harvesting water!. Harvesting water is the only PERMANENT solution for drought. Giving compansation or declaring drought hit taluk is all money making business. Hope Govts will wake up soon.

Artificial rain can be harnessed. Technology is available. Its should be a policy decision of the govt for the country to do cloud seeding wherever there is low rainfall. But our moron politicians want to spend money on building statues, bullet trains, divide and rule and other nonsense.
India will never ever change for another 500 years. ..all screwed up priorities.
