Udupi: Former minister Pramod requests DC to resolve sand issue by legal means

Udupi, Dec 26: Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj has requested the deputy commissioner (DC) to resolve the issue of sand mining by legal means.

He visited DC Priyanka Mary Francis on December 26 on the basis of requests by president of Udupi Zilla Maralu Karmikara Sangha, requested the DC to continue permits issued in transparent manner during his term and consider Dalits while issuing new permits for sand mining.

“When I was Udupi district in-charge minister, I had continued the policy of sand in Udupi district for the welfare of people. The policy should be continued to make sand available at low price for people in the district,” he said.

He said that he will meet state minister of mining, Rajashekhar Patil and try again to implement a separate sand policy for people in the coastal region.

Udupi district sand mining workers association president, members and Dalit leaders were present.
