Udupi, Dec 26: Lawrence D’Souza, a gifted singer along with his team on Tuesday December 25, presented his first-ever Konkani musical nite at St Pius Church ground, Palimar.
The Konkani musical extravaganza, named ‘Sangeeth Sangam’, organised by parish council and parishioners of St Pius Church, Palimar, enthralled a large crowd.
Fr Dr Roque D Souza, parish priest, Palimar Church, Walter Nandalike, founder, Daijiworld Media Group, Jithendra Furtado, panchayat president, Dainy Cutinha, vice-president, parish council, Palimar, and Laveena Saldanha, secretary were present.
The two and half hour musical fest began in the evening with a mixture of singing, dance and comedy.
Along with Lawrence, Konkani’s well-known singer Prajoth D’Sa, Gulf Voice of Mangalore fame Joshal D’Souza, Ashwin D’Costa, Joel Attur, MTG fame Gavin Menezes, Jasmine D’Souza, and Carol Danthy enthralled the audience with their melodious voices.
Mohammad Iqbal and Farid were the special attraction of the evening. With a number of Hindi and Kannada songs, they entertained music lovers and earned applause from them.
Noted musicians Roshan, Rajesh, Leston D’Souza, Rajendra and Roshan Crasta, and team members of Silver Tones handled the music. Team ‘Bindas Pernal’ created laughter-riot with their comedy skits.
Poet and TV anchor Alwyn Danthy compered the event.
Accepting the cheque of Rs 50,000 from Lawrence, which was collected in the musical nite, Fr Roque said, “It is a very proud moment for all parishioners that our parishioner is presenting his first musical nite. Lawrence is not only known for music. He is a successful entrepreneur and a person who always carries human values in life. I wish him all success in his projects and thank him for this musical treat.”
Thanking the organisers and audience, Lawrence said, “Today my dream has fulfilled. I started my musical journey as an amateur singer. The support from my family, relatives, well-wishers and especially my parishioners, encouraged me to do something special in the field of music. My two albums are examples for this. The same support encouraged me to present ‘Sangeeth Sangam’, my first musical nite. I am grateful to all behind my success.”
Larene Pinto, Rajyostava awardee and teacher Venkataramana Kamath, Palimar were felicitated.
Prior to the musical event, ‘Christmas Souharda Koota’ was held. Former MLA Vinaya Kumar Sorake and leaders of various communities and political parties were present.
