Kundapur, Dec 25: Ramson high school started functioning 25 years ago at Kandlur, Kavrady village here with the dream of providing quality high school education to rural students celebrated silver jubilee recently.
The school which began serving the rural population in 1993 with financial assistance from local elders, those who love education and government, is now well known for quality education. There was no high school nearby those days. Girls in particular were deprived of high school education. Those who advocate good education who saw the tribulations of rural folk from close quarters joined hands with the villagers in making the school a reality.
English medium classes were introduced in this school three years ago. Therefore, there has been a good revival in the number of admissions.
The silver jubilee celebrations were held with enthusiasm and a sense of achievement. Hundreds of past students of the institutions were present.
Byndoor MLA, B M Sukumar Shetty, who inaugurated the programme, said that the country can experience transformation only when the last child in the country gets education. “The future of the country depends on education. No child should be deprived of it.” he felt.
Leader of the opposition in legislative council,, Kota Srinivas Poojary lamented the fact that in the prevailing situation, it has become difficult to send children to government school. "Nearly 50,000 schools including high schools, primary schools, pre university colleges, aided schools etc are functioning in the state. Parents are hesitant and worried in the matter of sending children to government schools,” he said.
“Giving education to children is the basic aim of parents. As the court has left it to the discretion of parents to which school their children should be sent, it is matter of discussion how we should preserve and improve the schools, There are challenges to be faced in government sector. Let us all work towards it.” he said.
Teachers who served for 25 years and students who secured highest marks were felicitated. Children of school founders Samrat Shetty and K Abdul Munaf were honored.
Zilla panchayat member Jyothi M, taluk panchayat member Ambika, Kannika Parameshwari temple Kandlur managing trustee K Chandra Shekar Jogi, Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana Udupi coordination officer Prabhakar Mithyanta and others were present.
Samrat Shetty Halnadu welcomed and gave an introductory address. Teacher Archana Hegde proposed vote of thanks. Pratapchandra Shetty Halnadu compered the programme. School children and old students presented cultural programme.
