Riyadh, Dec 23: On one end, the whole world community is up against Saudi Arabia for the murder of journalist Jamal Kashoggi, on the other, the country is slowly revolutionizing its stand with regards to its culture. For the first time in the history of Saudi Arabia, women were allowed to dance alongside men in a western musical programme.
The musical evening programme of French superstar David Guetta, sponsored by the government of the country, that was held a few days ago, witnessed this historical change in the approach of the regime of the Kingdom towards its culture.
Prince Mohammed Bin Salman had heralded the social revolution in the country a few months earlier by permitting women of the kingdom to drive the vehicles. A video, in which a woman had danced, in a private event, had created storm on social sites in the month of June, 2018. It was accused that this violates the code of conduct of a Muslim nation. However, now with the removal of such a restriction, the nation has kept a step ahead in its cultural progress.
It is also accused by some that this is a trick to pacify the anti-Saudi wave that has emerged after the murder of Jamal Kashoggi. It is also said that though the prince is revolutionizing the culture and social norms, any dissent against the royal family is being silenced brutally.
