Udupi, Dec 23: If a person pays a toll charges once, the validity of the same will be there for the next12 hours? This means that the vehicle owner or driver need not pay the toll charges again if he or she passes by the same toll gate in return journey within 12 hours. This news is going viral on social sites including WhatsApp, which also says that the same is affirmed by Nitin Gadkari, central minister for road transport and highways.
When the sources at National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) were questioned on this issue, they are saying that the messages that are relayed on WhatsApp are not reliable. “We cannot say anything unless and until we receive any official message in this regard,” they said.
Priyanka Mary Francis, deputy commissioner of the district, said "We have not received any information of this nature. According to the project director of the NHAI, this is fake news,"
Vijay Samson, project director of four lane conversion of highway, said, "We have not received this kind of order,"
Giving clarification on the message going viral on WhatsApp, Shivaprasad Rai, manager of Navayuga toll plazas at Hejamadi, Talapady and Sasthan, said, "We have not put any public notice of this kind in any of the highways. In the receipt that is obtained after paying the toll, only the time of payment of the toll is mentioned. Even if the same vehicle returns within 15 minutes also, they have to pay the toll charges again. At the same time, if the toll charges are paid for both to and from journey, then the same is valid for 24 hours from the time that is mentioned on the receipt,"
This message regarding the toll payment was going viral on the social sites since the morning of Saturday, December 22. On the evening of Saturday, one particular car driver had asked about the 12 hour rule with the staff of Talapady tollgate. Excepting this no other person has inquired about the news that is going viral on social sites as per the information received by the tollgate personnel.
