Chitradurga, Dec 22: A woman experiencing labour pains had to be taken to hospital in a tempo used for transporting sheep as the ambulance did not arrive even after two and a half hours of waiting.
The incident has happened in Marikanive, Hiriyur taluk in Chitradurga. Lakshmamma, a resident of Marikanive experienced labour pains in the morning. Therefore, her parents took her to Madadakere health centre. But no doctors were available at the health centre. Therefore, the nurse at the centre suggested the parents of the pregnant woman to take her to the district hospital. However, no ambulance came even after waiting for more than two hours. The labour pains increased but they could not find a private vehicle either.
Lakshmamma had to be taken to the hospital at any cost. Therefore, they took her in a tempo transporting sheep. They had to take the alternate HD Pura route as the road on usual route was in a poor condition. The tempo was too small for the pregnant woman, her husband and three other women who were travelling together to the hospital, which was 35 kilometers away.
