Kasargod, Dec 22: In a show of unconditional devotion towards his party, Satheesan Pacheni, Kannur district Congress Committee (DCC) president, has sold off his own house to fund the construction of the district party office. Satheesan sold his house for Rs 38 lac to be able to clear outstanding amount of Rs 39 lac towards construction of the party's own building.
The house he sold now was constructed at a cost of Rs 40 lac a few years ago. Satheesan sold his house to fund the party which was in crisis as it did not have funds to meet construction bills. The party however has promised Satheesan to pay back his money once the fund position improves.
Congress party's district office construction has been going on slowly since the last many years because of various issues including financial ones. When he was made district president, Pacheni had vowed to complete the construction of new building of his party. The party which had faced election was in deep debt and its economic condition was at its nadir.
The previous contractor was replaced with a new one, by paying the outgoing contractor half of the agreed sum. The remaining construction needed Rs 39 lac. Building committee of which K Sudhakaran is the head had sought funds to fill the gap from well-wishers. The party was able to put together construction materials worth Rs 19 lac through donations. The president sold his own house to complete the construction.
The district Congress committee building has three floors, and its construction is in progress. It is set for January 26, 2019 inaugural.
