Kundapur, Dec 21: Ramson high school was established 25 years ago at Kandlur, Kavradi village near here with the dream of providing high school education for the rural students. Now this school is on the verge of celebrating its silver jubilee.
The school, which started in 1993 with the financial help from the elders of the locality and those who were the ardent lovers of education and the government, is well-known today for its quality education. There was no high school in the nearby area of Kavradi in those days. Girls in particular were deprived of high school education. Late Kenchanoor Mahabala Shetty, late Mohiddin Saheb and others who realized it, joined hands together with efforts of villagers for the establishment of the school. Though the school faced obstacles in the beginning, student-friendly facilities are becoming a reality in phases with the active participation of donors and local people.
The school was brimming with students in the beginning. However, due to the opening of new high schools and private schools in and around the vicinity, the number of students is depleting. English medium was started three years ago in the school. Because of this, there is a slight improvement in the number of students getting admitted to the school. The school is well-known, since its inception, for value-based education and extra curricular activities. Students are being encouraged in sports and cultural activities. Creative plans are being prepared and implemented from time to time.
Students who have studied and are studying here have shined in state, country and international levels.
At present, students from Kandlur, Halnadu, Paduvalthur, Mooduvaltur, Soukur, Marasi, Kavradi, Balkur and Nellikatte are studying here. Besides Kannada and English medium education for the last three years, there is computer education, smart class, large playground that is required for sports activities and an environment that is conducive to study is existing here. As the school is a little away from main road, the atmosphere is calm and serene.
Umesh Nayak, a student of this school, has participated in Children’s conference held in Switzerland. Every year the students of this school secure scholarships by passing in the NMMS examination. The school has received appreciation certificates from the government for its remarkable achievement.
The school development and administration committee, people representatives, teachers, old students, locals and education lovers formed a silver jubilee celebrations committee in order to celebrate the event on a large scale. Devananda Shetty was elected as the president of the committee. As part of the silver jubilee celebrations, plans of projects worth Rs 15,50,000 for the development of the school were drafted and are in the process of implementation.
Preparations to make the silver jubilee celebrations memorable are in progress with the support and cooperation of old students and locals.
Presently Nagamma, in-charge headmistress and six teachers are working in the school. Samrat Shetty Halnadu is serving as the president of school development committee and Premananda Shetty Halnadu is the president of old students' association.
