Mangaluru Dec 19: “The district administration is planning to introduce an app which will help in tracking the movement of city buses. Passengers can make use of the app to give feedback about their travel,” said deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil during the Road Transport Authority meeting at DC office on Wednesday, December 19.
The idea came up after frequent complaints poured in about the buses not moving on regular routes.
The DC also said, “Passengers also can use this app to book auto rickshaws online. As part of Smart City project, the district administration was planning to come with an app pertaining to transport section. Firstly, the city buses will register into the app followed by the auto rickshaws. The app is expected to launch in the month of April 2019.”
Further in the meeting, the city buses operators were asked to install radio frequency identification (RFID) and also paint their buses with light blue with three white strips in the middle.
President of district bus operators association Dilraj Alva said, “The bus operators will soon fix GPS systems and the association has already started mapping all the buses which are functioning in the city.”
The meeting also saw complaints being raised about conductors not issuing tickets and buses changing their routes. The DC said, "Technology that we will come up with, will address the issues pertaining to city buses. This advanced technology will help in tracing the city buses which will breach the rules of not moving in regular routes and action will be taken accordingly.”
"Through this app, passengers can book auto rickshaws online. Auto rickshaws functioning in the city should register and come under this app,” he said.
