Panaji, Dec 13: Post-Mumbai terror attack, the security of Goa chief minister Digamber Kamat has been equipped with more sophisticated weapons, police confirmed.
Pistoles which were carried formerly by Goa chief minister's escorts are now replaced by self loading rifles (SLRs) and AK47s.
"Several aspect of Chief minister's security has been increased," superintendent of Police (Security) Tony Fernandes said.
The terror scenario has also forced Goa police to consider purchase of `Jammer', which accompanies VVIP convoys and jams any signal generally used to detonate bombs by using remote control.
"The matter to purchase Jammer is pending with the state government," Fernandes said.
Mumbai terror attack happened when Goa was hosting International Film Festival of India 2008 in its capital city of Panaji. "Till this incident the chief minister who enjoys `Z' Category security used to go around with the pistols and guns," police sources confirmed.
Fernandes said that there was no formal request from chief minister's office to change the weapons and decision was taken by security team themselves.
The security of Goa chief minister's official and personal residences besides his office is looked after by 70 policemen of which 40 are from security branch, the SP said.
Goa has increased its overall security in the state following Mumbai terror attack with special attention given to 105 km long coastline. The security apparatus in the state is on alert as Christmas and New Year celebrations will be held in the next fortnight which will be attended by thousands of travelers including few VIPs.
